Vote NO on referendum Nov 3
MCC originated property tax caps that are now in our Indiana State Constitution to keep units of government from overspending and engaging in excessive mismanagement. Gary citizens are now being asked to vote for an $8,900,000 per year increase for 8 years ($71,200,000 +/- ) over the State tax caps for a continuously failing mismanaged school system that already has plenty of money to run a successful school system.
Reasons why No referendum money is needed:
No referendum money needed to fix up buildings. Thanks to the Indiana Legislature, Gary Schools have $470,000 per month for 4 1/2 years ($25,000,000 +/- ).
No referendum money needed for a slush fund with $4,000,000 from U.S. Steel's one time payment in lieu of property taxes.
No referendum money needed for coronavirus related expenditures when receiving $4,000,000 through the CARES Act.
No referendum money needed when they already get $8,000 X 4,000 students ($32,000,000) to support students and even raises for teachers. Add in Title Funds of at least $800 per student ($3,000,000).
